A Good Deed...

Sophia is a Daisy Girl Scout (Daisy is the first step...Kinder and 1st grade girls). Every 2 weeks they meet and work on earning a new petal. Each petal has a theme. A few months ago they earned the "helping" petal and made these little signs that said "a Daisy was here." Sophia came out of that meeting very excited and for a few days kept telling me that she had to get up early and could I please stay in bed a bit longer. I forget what her first good deed was.
Fast forward to yesterday...she came out of our room saying something about "Daddy's clothes are hard to do. Wait until you go into your room." I had no clue what she was talking about. It was a busy afternoon and evening and it wasn't until after she went to bed that I found this "a Daisy was here" note. I almost cried!!! She had been in our room trying to put the folded laundry away!! So so sweet. And, I don't think this is the original note they made in Daisies, so she must have worked to make a new one.
Sophia can be such a little drama queen sometimes, but she has a heart of gold. She is always leaving notes for people and making little gifts. Such a sweet sweet little spirit!

Goodbye Yellow Laminate....

When we bought this house almost 5 years ago I told Mike "I will not move in with those countertops!" Well...I didn't win that battle. But, as of this weekend...the whole kitchen will be torn out and redone. I am SO excited!! It's hard to believe that when we get back from the ranch on Wednesday things will look drastically different!!! We are taking a HUGE step into the land of modern!!! This kitchen deal fell into our laps and we could not pass it up. So thankful that things worked out the way that they did...and that Mike is willing to work hard for the next 5 days (and a long time after that!) to make our house look better and better.

A Cinderella Party....

The big event for Sophia's party was the Cinderella play. It was at the Empire Theater...which is really pretty (kind of like a small Majestic!). The girls loved it! The night did not go quite as planned. We had to have cake at Starbucks and stand in a long line for the meet and greet for the characters. But, the girls had a great time. And, since we were there for a special night, all the characters got together so we could have a group picture at the very end. A special night for a special 6 year old!

Family Birthday Party....

Celebration #3...this time with the family!
Little Sullivan in his lion hat/lovie!
Christopher enjoying cake!

A Rite of Passage....

Turning 6 was special for several reasons....but probably the most important (to Sophia) is that she could get her ears pierced. She has waited and waited since last July when Rylie got hers done.

So the big day had finally come. Mom, Shirley, Sophia and I went for the big event. Off to the mall to go to Claire's. I had no idea how she would react. I talked to her about how it probably would hurt, but not for long. There was one little girl getting hers done when we got there, so we had to wait a few minutes. Then....it was Sophia's turn!!!

BeforeAfter a few tears...she was all smiles! Now she has to wait 8 weeks until she can change them. It's a lot of waiting!!! :)

Happy Birthday Sophia!!!

Six years ago the doctor said "It's a girl!!!" and Mike and I both said "Really???" We thought for sure it would be a boy. What an incredible six years it has been....full of laughter and some tears! She is growing up to be such a wonderful little lady and I can't wait to see what the future has in store for her! She gave me a big hug this morning on the way out the door to school and said "Thanks for everything Mommy!" Melt my heart!!!
(Now we need an updated short hair "6" picture!!)

The great haircut....

I like long hair...I admit it...I'm very biased towards long hair (especially on little girls!!!). Two of Sophia's best friends got their hair cut short in the past year and Sophia has wanted to get hers cut ever since! I kept telling her "later....later...later!!!" When Mike said she could get her ears pierced on her birthday, I figured that was a good excuse to cut her hair too. So...she has waited a long time...but about 7" are now gone!!!

Before....The first big cut wasn't short enough...so more came off!
All that beautiful hair on the floor!!
But...one happy little girl in the chair!!! She loves it. And I'll admit...it does look very cute!
