Old shirt...new outfit

Today I took Sophia's old t-shirt and pair of leggings...and made a totally new outfit. I think it turned out very cute! I got the idea from this blog:

Before...

My model wasn't cooperating too much. And Jake "had" to be in the picture. But, you can see how cute it is!

I'm also working on a bandanna dress for her. I made it today, but it's too big so I need to take it in.

Summer Fun

Not a whole lot going on this week. It's been at least 100 each day. Joshua has been sick..and things to do are limited.

Jake busted out the tennis racket to play with inside. Not such a good idea. Sophia took it and started playing with Joshua. I can get so many more pictures of Sophia and Joshua than I can of Jake. Several reasons...Sophia sits still for a lot longer than Jake, she plays with Joshua more and she doesn't run from the camera!! Joshua thought this was SO funny!!! He just laughed and laughed while she held the racket up to her face.

This morning before church they were playing doctor. Mike and I say that this is how Sophia will support us when we're old...with her prosperous medical practice. Joshua was her patient today. First she took his temperature.

Then she listened to his heartbeat and breathing.

And then decided he needed a shot. I love how he is looking at her!

Last but not least here are some more things that Sophia has said to me lately.
1. I don't want to be in this family anymore!
2. You are being mean at me.
3. Stop looking at me.

Oh...the fun of having a 3 year old!!!

Hot Summer Days...

What better thing to do when it's 104.5 in the shade than play on the slip-n-slide??? Seriously...our thermometer says 104.5 right now and the outside sensor is on the patio, which is covered. Makes me really wonder how hot it's going to get this summer!!!!

We walked over to Grammy's house this morning to play. Joshua is running a fever, so our activities are limited. The kids had a great time, of course!!!

The love for TV starts early!

I don't know about you...but when I get paper out to start a project I always wear my football helmet. It helps me think better!!!

Say what???

The kids say the funniest things. Jake told me he was making me a cake today. When it was ready, he called me into his room to see it. "Look at this cool Bobby Flay cake I made Mommy!" Is that a sign we watch too much Food Network?

Sophia also recognizes Alton Brown...maybe we should switch channels.

Last weekend we took the kids to see Up. Not a very good idea. No one told me that there were some "scary" parts at the end. We saw it in 3D, which Mike and I thought was very cool. The kids didn't wear their glasses much. The end of the movie did get a little intense...and we had to leave early due to crying.

Anyhow...while driving to the movie, a guy in front of us wasn't paying attention. Mike says to me (quietly) "Man, this guy is retarded." Fast forward to after the movie and dinner...Sophia was very upset that she couldn't take her drink in the car. She hops in her car seat, crosses her little arms and says "Man, this is carded." We almost died!!! I guess little ears here a lot more than we think they do!!!! So, now the joke between Mike and I is how things are so "carded."

Catchin' up on pictures....

This past week has been fairly uneventful. I've tried to stay home a bit more in hopes of letting the kids realize that summer will not be nonstop entertainment. They're going to have to have fun just being at home too.

Joshua loves bath time!!

You can't go wrong wearing a new bikini and new "beautiful" hair accessories!!

One of the rare moments when Jake and Sophia play well together for long periods of time. We made play dough and they had so much fun with it. They were pretending to bake their cake and were taking it out of the oven.

Later that day they were both on the top bunk reading to each other. It was very sweet!

Who wants a treat?

Mike had a craving for Rice Krispie treats the other night and decided to make them with the kids. It was very cute because he's hardly ever in the kitchen...and cooking with the kids is even more rare. They had lots of fun and enjoyed the treats too.

Out of the mouth of a 3 year old....

Sophia is in rare form these days. She repeats almost everything I tell her...which is scary. All the "mommy things" I tell her come back to haunt me. Some of these things will serve her well later in life. These are things I'd like to hear her say when she's much older:

1. No one touches my bottom!
2. Nobody going to sleep in my bed except me.
3. Get your hands off me.

Good for the teenage years and beyond....but right now they come across as very sassy!!

Three kiddos...three personalities...

A boy through and through.

Always the mommy and always all dolled up. Not sure where she gets that gene. It's not like I go around dressed up everyday!!

Joshua always has the "I'm just happy to be here" look.

I'm continually amazed that 3 children who all belong to me and Mike...can have such totally different personalities. And some of it is the difference between boys and girls. But, a lot of it is just the way they're made.

And...I guess I should start keeping count of how many times Sophia tells me this in my lifetime. But, tonight was #1:
"I don't love you anymore Mommy."

Last night she told Mike "Geeeet that door open!!" after he closed her door a little too much (for her liking) at bedtime. He about hit the roof. She's got a sassy mouth for sure.

Dog days of summer....already????

I've had all 3 kids home for 2 days now. It feels like it should be at least Thursday night. The weekend has to be soon??? Right??? The days seem very long. I'll have constantly be on the lookout for things to do and ways to tire them out!!!!

Home again home again....

Mike came back home yesterday!! Good thing because I was just about done with the whole "on my own with 3 kids" thing.

Yesterday the kids and I went to Jamie's to play and take pictures. You can see the pictures here:
http://jamietphotography.blogspot.com/

I think they turned out pretty good! The ones of the kids are amazing. Jamie is able to get such great shots. The ones of me are okay. I'm glad to have some of just me and the kids. I'm hardly ever in pictures with them!!

Today the kids and I worked in the front yard flower beds. It was time to add some color. Now if I can just keep the flowers alive for awhile!

The best part of today is that in about an hour I'm off to a 90 min. massage. Hooray!!! I'm going to enjoy every minute of it!!

Graduation Day....

It's official now... I have a kid old enough to head to Kindergarten. I realize that he could have gone last year, but I really really really think that letting him have one more year at Northwood Presbyterian was by far the best decision for him. Today was the last day of school and I was ready with tissues, but surprisingly didn't need them until I was at home and the kids were napping. Then the graduation and lack of sleep really hit.

The graduation/chapel service was very cute. All the classes sang a song. Sophia's class sang "Down By the Bay" and at every "funny part" they all cracked up laughing. There wasn't a whole lot of singing going on. Jake's class sang "We're Going to Kindergarten." The girls in his class did most of the singing. The boys just stood there. Then...all the kids who were moving on next year got called up one by one to get their diploma. Jake was just so darn cute. He has learned SO much this year and had a fun time. I can't thank his teachers...and Sophia's too..for such a great year.

Now the countdown is on until Mike gets home. I can do one more night alone...I've made it this far...I can survive the last stretch. And having a 90 min. massage scheduled on Saturday helps some too!!!!

It's Tough to be Three....

The kids are down to one more day of school. Tomorrow is the official last day. Today was their last regular day. Mike has been out of town and it's wearing on all of us. Last night we had a huge thunderstorm and were up for literally hours. It was bad!!! So, the kids were tired today. Sophia was so excited when I picked her up from school because she had this big yellow balloon with a smiley face on it. Big big balloon!! We hadn't even made it home...and school is just next door so we can walk...before it popped. Oh the tears!! "My ba-balloon"...or something like that. It's funny the way she says it. She cried and cried and I felt so bad for her. Then, she looks up at me with big crocodile tears rolling down her face and said "Mrs. Pena told me not to pop it and I did." Poor little one!!!!!!! Made my heart break. Tired but excited about her balloon, trying to do what her teacher told her...and now it's gone. It's tough to be little!!!

Here I go....

Okay...here I go....jumping into the world of blogging. Good way to document the craziness of our life right now...good way to share all my cute pictures of the kids and a way to vent all my mommy trials and tribulations.
