Very First Camping Trip....

I've been wanting to go camping (yes...with all the dirt and mess) for awhile. I knew the kids would love it. So...this was the weekend. 5 Northwood families went to Garner State Park. 13 kids total for 2 nights. We borrowed a friends pop up camper (forgot to take a pic!!!) so we could ease our way into the whole camping experience. The kids had a blast!!!

Early morning on Saturday around the campfire. It was C-O-L-D start to Saturday..down into the low 40's!!! We were waiting for Lisbeth Anne to tell us how to make "pie irons" for breakfast. So yummy!! Basically a build your own pie to cook over the fire.

Then once it warmed up it was time to head to the river. We moved our setup down by the water and stayed there most of the day. The Frio lived up to its name!!! But the kids didn't mind.

A little kayaking on the river....

And...a little turtle catching!! Sophia was on a mission. There were so many turtles out sunning themselves. We found this one (with the help of another friendly swimmer) and kept him in a bucket for awhile.

Then...she caught this teeny tiny turtle with a net.

Our group picture of all 13 kids. We were on the hike this morning to Crystal Cave. It was quite the hike!!! Very very steep and rocky.

Sophia and Joshua explored the cave with flashlights and found lots of daddy longlegs and crystals.

The view from the top.

And a campout must include a weenie roast!! :)

It was a great time. Glad we made the effort and tried camping. The kids loved it!!! The washer has been running non stop since we got home...but I think that's the sign of a fun weekend. Not sure where we will try next!!! :)
