New blankies??? Maybe not....

Scratch the $2 blankies that I made today. Joshua wants absolutely nothing to do with them. I gave him one...and he looked at me in horror, took it and threw it on the ground. We tried and tried. Even took one of the new ones to soccer practice in hopes that it would grow on him. Nope!! When we got home and he was able to have the "real" blankie...he rubbed it all over his face and even put it on the ground to roll around in happiness on it.

It's official...we have a little Linus on our hands. Wonder if I could try making green and yellow blankies...so at least they're the same color as his usual ones. Could be a project for another day!

Sewing machine is busy....

I've been busy sewing lately. Mary asked me to make a couple bags to donate to their church silent auction. I hope they're cute enough that someone wants to buy them!! I made a decorated "mom" bag. And 2 crayon bags (one for a boy and one for a girl). The bags have little slots that hold the crayons in front. I filled the bags with a coloring book, pencils crayons, pencils, stickers and a notebook. Pretty cute...in my opinion!!!

The other sewing project has been some little blankies for Joshua. He loves his green and yellow blankies that you could (notice I said could) buy at Wal-Mart. At one point we had about 6. Now we're down to 2. I have no idea how they keep disappearing!!! It had been on my to-do list to order some more online. Now they're gone. But....for the very reasonably price of $25, a nice lady on EBay has 3 of them for sale!! They were only $8 at Wal-Mart, so her mark-up of 300% is very fair!!!
I did think for a few minutes about trying to bargain with her, but then I got a grip on reality. For the low low price of $12, I got enough fabric at Hobby Lobby to make 6 little blankies!!! You do the math!!! Now I can feed Joshua's little baby crack habit with enough blankies to last quite a while. And if we lose all 6, I can whip out some more. Go ahead little man...use your blankies, rub them all over you face....love them to pieces!! They're only $2 a pop!!

Are you sure?? Really???

I think we're done with bottles in our house. I thought Joshua would be really hard to wean from the bottle. And secretly I was hoping that it would take awhile. I wanted to hang on to that last bit of "baby" for as long as I could. Well...scratch that!! He's over the bottle. We've had 2 full days of only sippy cups and he's been just fine. My baby is growing up!!

I think I will hang on to at least one bottle....just in case! Are you sure Joshua??? I'm fine with another month of sweet nighttime bottles before bed!!!

Moving up....

We made the big jump to a "real" kitchen table today. Our old table had a very very long life. We got it from my dad about 5 years ago. And my dad used it for at least 10 years before that. I realize that 15+ years isn't that long for a table...but this table had a hard life!!!

I found this table on Craigslist. Needs a little cleaning up, but I love it! And I love that it has 6 chairs!!! Now we all fit! I also think it looks a lot better with the other furniture we already have!!

Three year olds and soccer practice....

What...soccer practice?? Guess she needs to check her messages before leaving. And the sunglasses really make the outfit!!!
Anyone in SanAntonio need some entertainment on Mondays between 4:15 and 5:00???? Come over to Northwood Presbyterian and watch The Tigers have soccer practice!!! Today was the first practice. All but one kid is 3 (there's one 4 year old girl) and all the kids (except the 4 year old) are in the same class. Talk about funny!!! The kids all did pretty good today especially since it was so hot and humid. I was kind of surprised that the kids did so well handling the ball and dribbling it around. We could have a good team on our hands!!!
1 more practice before the first game. Excitement will be high during the next practice because they'll get their uniforms.

One glimpse into how games could go....Sophia came up to me during practice and said "that boy took the ball away from me and I didn't like that." Hmmm....I can see some issues during the game when there's only one ball and someone takes it from her. Could be bad!! The other kids might need to watch out!!!

By this time I think they were all VERY tired!!! I love how they are actually sitting inside the goal!

The littlest one....

Joshua is trying to make another friend. Sharing his popsicle with Bosque is so nice!! The interesting thing is that he didn't even get upset when he realized his popsicle was gone!!
Life is hard...and tiring sometimes. Why not take a rest on the windowsill?

And...one more sign that you're the third child....as your getting out of the car, your older sister accidentally bumps you. You fall and roll (literally) under Daddy's truck. Not a problem...just roll out and get up.

He was so funny when this happened yesterday. Absolutely no reaction. Had the pacifier in....got bumped, fell, rolled and got right back up and kept going!!!

A requested picture...

Here's a picture of our budding ballerina. First class was on Monday. I didn't take a picture of her dressed for class. This would be way too fancy for class...but you get the idea.

Vegas Baby....

5 of us...minus the birthday girl. This is at the Imperial Palace...which was one of the best people watching spots!!!! Random lady in the striped shirt....she was ALL ABOUT dancing. Sherrill joked that this would be us in about 30 years. She just kept dancing and dancing and dancing. And seemed to be dancing with no one but herself!!
A bar with a cage in it...need I say more?? I'm too old for this!!!
Out by the pool....we spent at least 6 hours out there 2 days in a row. Relaxing, great drinks, great people watching, friends to chat with....what more could you ask for?

Wal-Mart fun...

As we were walking through Wal-Mart yesterday, Sophia saw the Barbie aisle. Having a momentary lapse in judgement, I let her go down it and look at things. Bad mistake. Of course she wanted everything.

After telling her "no" several times, she said (very loudly) "All I have are naked Barbies. I don't want naked Barbies. I want clothes on them."

Hmmm...wonder what other people thought when they heard that!! Perhaps if she would dress her Barbies (in one of the many outfits she already has in her room), they wouldn't be naked!!!!

What a difference a few years make....

Let's take a look back to August 2006 when Sophia was 6 months old. Playing with Jake in the wagon....

And now fast forward to September 2009!! Wow!!! Jake looks SO grown-up and Sophia just looks like a different kid all together!

Add one more who is going "what the heck is happening?"
"I think I'll just quietly drive and keep my plug in!"

Have you heard this one??

Jesus loves the little children,
All the children of the world.
Red and yellow, black and white
They are precious SILLY sight,
Jesus loves the little children of the world.

The first time Sophia sang it this way, I thought maybe she just messed up. Nope...that's how she thinks the song goes! I thought it was pretty cute!

This is what she looked like as she was singing. I love the headband. She learned a new phrase yesterday...."fashion statement." And doesn't it fit well for her!!!

Viva Las Vegas...

For the first time since I was very very pregnant with Sophia, Mike and I flew away for some much needed time away from the kids!!! In celebration of Shannon's 40th (WOW!!) birthday, there were 7 couples who met in Vegas to win money (yeah right!!) and have fun. We came from San Antonio, Dallas, Kansas City, San Diego and Corona (outside Los Angles). Not bad!! We were in 4 different hotels which made getting together a little hard, but we had lots of fun and I'm SO glad Mike and I were able to go!

It took a village to get our kids taken care of for the 4 nights. My sister kept Sophia. Shirley had the boys for 2 nights. Then my mom helped out and took Joshua for 2 nights. Even Mary's mother in law helped some!! Big thanks and hugs to everyone. Mike and I really needed and enjoyed the time away!

Vegas was great. Didn't win any money, but had lots of fun. We all felt a little old though. Some signs you're old in Vegas:

1. You're fine with spending 6 hours at the pool...in the shade with no alcohol! You're fine avoiding the Lazy River which is just a pick up spot for singles and all you want to do is nap and people watch!!

2. You decide which clubs or bars to get into based on whether or not they let people in shorts and tennis shoes in. And when you do get into the bar...you're wondering why people are dancing in a cage and swinging from a tire swing above the bar. Hmmm....and the random blowing of whistles seems very odd. If I had known whistles were "in", I would have brought my old teacher whistle from the recess days!

3. Penny slots seems like the way to go. And for a real thrill... you hit the nickel slots. Wahoo!!!

Anyhow...pictures to come soon. It was great to be with old friends and have time away from kids. Some of these friends I've known for about 17 years! And each time we get together we can pick up like it was yesterday. So, I'm so thankful to have such wonderful friends to spend time with!!

When's our next trip????

Ballet bag...

Sophia starts ballet tomorrow. It's offered through her school so the teacher comes there to teach the 3 and 4 year old girls. You don't have to sign up, but I knew Sophia would love it. So....she has her leotard, tights and shoes all ready to go. Of course she needed a cute bag for all her stuff. This is what I made her. I think it turned out very cute. Could have been jazzed up more...but I thought it was good for a first try. And she's only 3!! We don't need too much bling-bling just yet!!

Hey guys...what about me???

This is the life of #3....always wanting what the big kids have!! At least both big kids are usually pretty good about sharing with him!

One Day I'll Laugh About This....

I can see Jake telling his teacher tomorrow "My mommy cried because I didn't eat my lunch yesterday." I know I need to get a grip. I've always known it but today it became a little clearer!!

Jake had a great first week of Kinder. This week, not so great. He's gotten in trouble both days. Moved his "clip" on the behavior chart. Yesterday I never got a clear answer about all that happened. This morning I talked to his teacher and found out (no surprise) that he was getting a new seat today and has had trouble listening, getting out of his chair, staying focused...etc. Really??? My child??? That's been my main concern all along. Jake has the attention span of about 5 seconds...on a good day!!

So today I found out that he threw rocks on the playground and moved his clip to red. According to him, he got to play with "nothing at all." Also when I picked him up he said he got a tray in the cafeteria...which would have been fine except that I packed his lunch for him!!! He loves to get a tray, but this week we planned out which days he would bring his lunch and I even made a little calendar for the week showing the schedule of trays vs. lunch boxes.

Well...lack of sleep, too high expectations...whatever it was I started crying after we got home. All the way home we talked about things, how to behave, the lunch box thing "when you bring your lunch box you have to eat it...you can't get a tray too!!!" Next thing I know I'm sitting in the dining room crying. Then...I hear Jake tell Sophia "Mommy is sad that I didn't eat my lunch. So now I need to eat it." And I see him get his lunch box out of the fridge and sit down at the table to eat it. That caused more tears. It seemed very black and white to him. He didn't eat his lunch, I was sad, so he tried to fix it.

I need to get a grip. It's only day 7 of Kinder. He is an easily distracted little guy. It's going to take time!!! And...at lunch today they were serving hamburgers. He loves hamburgers. And his teacher told him it was okay to get a tray (not sure what that's about...but whatever). So I can see from his point of view, it was fine to get a tray.

Tomorrow I will do better. I promise. And Jake says he will too!!!!
